Vucic condemned the verdict of the leader of the Republika Srpska Dodik
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the country strongly condemns the verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to the leader of the Republika Srpska (RS, an entity within BiH) Milorad Dodik and considers it anti-democratic and anti-Serb.
"The sentence of President Milorad Dodik, which gave him one year in prison and a ban on political activity for disrespecting Christian Schmidt, is strongly condemned," Vucic said, quoted by the Kurir newspaper.
According to him, the court's decision is immoral, and also violates human rights to freedom of expression. In addition, he stressed that the situation in the region continues to be alarming, and the Serbs are in particular danger.
"In accordance with the Constitution and the Dayton Agreement, Serbia will use all diplomatic and legal means to support Republika Srpska and its legitimate representatives," Vucic added.
On February 26, the BiH court sentenced Dodik to a year in prison in absentia in the case of non-compliance with the decisions of the UN High Representative in BiH Schmidt. In addition, the head of the entity was banned from carrying out political activities for six years. Dodik himself did not appear in the courtroom.
On March 12, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) decided to detain Dodik. On April 23, employees of the State Investigation and Security Agency tried to carry it out in East Sarajevo in the RS, but employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the entity prevented it.
Prior to that, on February 27, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the criminal prosecution of the President of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Milorad Dodik, was political and reprehensible.
