United States Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, who currently serves as head of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), confirmed the need to maintain relations with Roscosmos. This was announced on August 1 by Dmitry Bakanov, CEO of the Russian state corporation, while on a visit to the United States.

He noted that at a meeting with him on July 31, Duffy made it clear that relations between the space agencies of the two countries should not stop even in a difficult geopolitical period, since the safety of astronauts and astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) depends on it.

"And, most importantly, the joint development of technologies. <...> Because we have been cooperating for 50 years, and there is a desire not to lose this interaction. It would be very easy to break up and quarrel, but only then it would be difficult to restore. And at that time, in 1975, also in the middle of the cold war, it seemed that this was impossible, but nevertheless, two countries, two geopolitical opponents were able to come to an agreement," Bakanov quotes TASS.

A day earlier, it was reported that Bakanov and Duffy discussed cooperation between Russia and the United States on lunar programs and joint space exploration. As the head of Roscosmos noted, he will make every effort to preserve the channel of cooperation between Russia and the United States, and expects the same steps from NASA. The meeting of the heads of Roscosmos and NASA took place for the first time in eight years.
