A 76-year-old man has been arrested in the UK on suspicion of poisoning children at a summer camp in central England. This was announced by the Leicestershire County Police on their website.

"A 76-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of using poison or a harmful substance to cause harm. He is currently in custody," the statement said.

According to the agency, on July 27, the county police received a report about the poor health of children in the camp in the village of Statern. Eight children were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. All of them have been discharged, Leicestershire Police said.

"We understand the concern this incident will cause parents, guardians and the surrounding community. We are in contact with the parents and guardians of all the children. <...> We are working with partner agencies, including child services, to ensure the full protection of <...> children.", — said the senior investigator, Detective Inspector Neil Holden.

Earlier, on July 15, about 60 people received food poisoning after a wedding in the Turkish city of Urfa. The wedding guests complained of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting after tasting the wedding cake. The bride and groom, who did not eat the food, did not get poisoned. The dangerous treat was sent to the police station for analysis.
