- The US Senate announced the readiness of Congress to adopt sanctions against the Russian Federation.
The leader of the Republican Party in the US Senate, John Thune, said that both chambers of the American parliament are ready to adopt a bill related to the adoption of sanctions against Russia if the President of the United States, Donald Trump, gives him the green light. This was reported by the New York Post on July 30.
"Tune <...> is ready to move forward on a bill on sanctions against Russia if a cease-fire with Ukraine is not reached by the end of next week. It is also necessary for Trump to give him the green light," the publication says.
The Republican leader in the Senate also expressed the hope that the US president would be ready to approve the sanctions, which would supposedly increase his authority and importance in the negotiations.
In addition, according to the newspaper, Trump may decide on "unilateral actions" to impose sanctions. At the same time, the House of Representatives and the Senate are ready to take measures if they are asked to impose stricter restrictions on the Russian Federation.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said on July 29 that the United States had taken into account all possible negative consequences from the imposition of secondary sanctions against Russia and its trading partners. Bruce also believes that Trump has been "patient" dealing with the Ukrainian conflict.
On July 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the country was coping with Western sanctions and was not afraid of new restrictions. According to him, European experts recognize that as a result, the damage from anti-Russian restrictions will primarily be suffered by "the author of this sanctions war."
On July 14, Trump announced his intention to impose 100% secondary duties on Russia if the Ukrainian conflict is not resolved in 50 days. Later, on July 28, he announced that he had reduced this period to 10-12 days.
