- The EU expressed dissatisfaction with Germany's position against reducing ties with Israel
The European Union (EU) is unhappy with Germany, which opposes reducing cooperation with Israel. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on July 31.
According to the publication, the European Commission (EC) has proposed suspending certain parts of the Association Agreement between the EU and Israel. According to the newspaper, more and more EU member states advocate such a step.
"Germany has so far refused to approve this proposal <...>. Diplomats from many EU countries privately expressed their dissatisfaction with Berlin after [German Chancellor Friedrich] Merz said he would like to see how the situation on the ground would develop in the coming days," the publication notes.
At the same time, it is noted that, despite the urgency, the EC proposal probably did not receive sufficient support among the EU countries. In addition, Poilitco points to signs of a softening of the Merz position.
Earlier, on July 28, Focus magazine reported more than 1,000 statements against Merz in Germany because of his position on the conflict in the Gaza Strip. In addition, the German Chancellor was investigated for involvement in crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
