Macron noted the imbalance of the EU-US agreement
The European Union (EU) Framework Agreement on trade tariffs with the United States is unbalanced, but it still has good sides. This was announced on July 30 by French President Emmanuel Macron, addressing the country's cabinet of Ministers, according to the Reuters news agency.
The French leader noted that the concluded document indicates that the bloc failed to justify the "fears" of US President Donald Trump.
"To be free, you need to be feared. They weren't afraid of us enough," French officials quoted him as saying to the ministers.
However, the deal will provide greater transparency to French businesses, Macron acknowledged. The French president added that this is only the first step towards cooperation with the United States, and negotiations on the document will continue.
Earlier in the day, the German newspaper Handelsblatt said that the EU continues to debate the key elements of a tariff deal with the United States, and a trade conflict could flare up again. According to the newspaper, the European Union rejected numerous points of the "newsletter" on tariffs and investments, published by the White House on July 28.
The United States and the EU agreed on a trade deal on July 28. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. In addition, the EU agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources and invest another $600 billion in the US economy.
