The countries of the European Union (EU) could have avoided concluding a difficult trade and economic agreement with the United States if the EU had continued to steadily receive gas from Russia. This was announced on July 30 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

The diplomat pointed out that Russia has created all the opportunities for Europeans to purchase stable gas and even built a separate pipeline.

"Let's say they built a pipeline with someone else and received gas through it. Why would they need to do all the things they are doing now — increasing the costs of their citizens many times over, destroying their own industries, throwing themselves back decades?" she said on Sputnik radio.

According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, this situation has developed due to the long-term system of work of the Anglo-Saxons and bureaucrats in the EU and NATO, who act together against the interests of the inhabitants of Europe.

The United States and the EU agreed on a trade deal on July 28. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. In addition, the EU agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources and invest another $600 billion in the US economy.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the trade agreement between the United States and the EU would lead to the further deindustrialization of Europe. According to him, the deal will be a very strong blow to energy prices and will lead to an outflow of investments in European industry and agriculture.
