Rescue services of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are assessing the condition of buildings in Kamchatka after the earthquake. Tsunami waves flooded the port of Severo-Kurilsk and a fishing enterprise. This was announced on July 30 by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
"Tremors of up to 8.7 points were felt. There is no information about the victims," the department's Telegram channel says.
It is reported that the facade of the kindergarten, which was under repair, collapsed. Rescuers of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations conducted an inspection and secured the area around the building.
According to the Kamchatka Tsunami Monitoring Center, the wave reached the islands of Paramushir and Shumshu in the North Kuril region. The tsunami caused partial destruction of the ventilation pipes.
Residents were evacuated in a timely manner. The situation remains under control, all emergency services are functioning normally, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation added.
On July 30, the governor of the Sakhalin Region, Valery Limarenko, announced that residents were being evacuated in Severo-Kurilsk as a result of a magnitude 7.9 earthquake. A tsunami threat has been declared in the region.
