- The White House described Trump's deal with the EU with the phrase "Europe has come to its knees"
The trade deal concluded between the United States and the European Union (EU) shows that Europe has recognized American economic dominance and accepted the trade rules of the President of the United States, Donald Trump. This was announced on July 29 by Sebastian Gorka, director of the White House National Security Council for Combating Terrorism.
"Now, even for me, and I've known President Trump for ten years, it's hard to believe that the entire European Union has knelt before [the political program] "America First," he said in an interview with Newsmax.
Gorka stressed that the leaders of European countries have recognized that for many years EU members have been "freeloaders", profiting from the global trade system, but now they are ready to accept US import duties of 15%.
Bloomberg reported earlier in the day that the trade agreement that the United States and the EU had previously concluded in Scotland was prompting Brussels to analyze its position due to its "lost influence" on the world stage. The article clarifies that the terms of this deal will deal a "significant blow" to European companies.
The United States and the EU agreed on a trade deal on July 28. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. As a result of the deal, the European Union remains with 15% tariffs on most of its exports, including cars. In addition, the EU agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources and invest another $600 billion in the US economy.
Later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the US-EU trade agreement would lead to the further deindustrialization of Europe. He noted that Europe plans to spend $750 billion on the purchase of American energy resources, in particular liquefied natural gas (LNG) and nuclear energy due to the "complete decoupling" of energy purchases from Russia.
