Orban criticized von der Leyen for the EU-US trade agreement
The European Union (EU) has concluded an unfavorable trade deal with the United States due to the failure of the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen. This was announced on July 28 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"This was not a deal that President Donald Trump made with Ursula von der Leyen. It was Donald Trump who ate Ursula von der Leyen for breakfast," Politico newspaper quoted him as saying.
As noted by "Gazeta.Ru", Orban added that the terms of the trade agreement between the US and the EU are significantly worse than those stipulated in the agreement with the UK.
Earlier in the day, the US and the EU agreed on a trade deal. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. As a result of the deal, the European Union remains with 15% tariffs on most of its exports, including cars. In addition, the EU agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources and invest another $600 billion in the US economy.
Later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the US-EU trade agreement would lead to the further deindustrialization of Europe. He noted that Europe plans to spend $750 billion on the purchase of American energy resources, in particular liquefied natural gas (LNG) and nuclear energy by "completely untying" the purchase of Russian energy resources.
