- Politico reported on the EU's inability to invest the promised $600 billion in the US economy
The European Union (EU) countries will not be able to invest $600 billion in the US economy, which was part of a trade deal between the union and the United States. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on July 29, citing sources.
"According to two EU officials, this is due to the fact that all funds will come from the private sector, over which Brussels has no power," the publication notes.
According to the newspaper, the European Commission (EC) has stated that it will introduce any incentives to ensure that the private sector reaches the target of $600 billion. At the same time, the terms of the investment were not specified.
The day before, US President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with the European Union. According to Bloomberg, the agreement will allow the EU to avoid the 30 percent tariffs that Washington could impose. It is specified that, in turn, the EU agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources and invest another $600 billion in the United States economy.
According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the US-EU trade agreement will lead to the further deindustrialization of Europe. He noted that Europe plans to spend $750 billion on the purchase of American energy resources, in particular liquefied natural gas (LNG) and nuclear energy by "completely untying" the purchase of Russian energy resources.
