Trade negotiators from the United States and the European Union (EU) have met to discuss details of future talks on tariff reductions between US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This was reported on July 26 by The Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing sources.

"EU and US trade negotiators conducted intensive negotiations ahead of the meeting between Donald Trump and Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland, <...> as Brussels seeks to strike a deal with Washington to avoid an economically destructive transatlantic tariff war."

It is noted that as part of the negotiations, the EU will insist on reducing 30% of trade duties on imports of European goods to 15%. The negotiators argued over the details of the level of duties to be applied to steel, automobiles and pharmaceutical products of the EU.

Earlier, on July 25, it was reported that Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer could achieve an "improved" trade deal between the countries during negotiations. The United States also intended to reach a similar agreement with the European Union (EU). According to the American leader, European countries are "very interested" in the deal.
