GAZ automobile plant will switch to four-day mode due to falling market
In August of this year, Gorky Automobile Plant will switch to a four-day working week due to the decline in the commercial vehicle market. This was reported on July 24 by Interfax with reference to the company's press service. The shortened working week at the plant may be extended — starting in September, the order of production will be determined monthly based on market factors.
GAZ representatives pointed out that, given the high key rate and the unavailability of financial tools for car purchases, the market decline in the first half of the year in the medium—duty truck segment was almost 40%, in the light commercial vehicle segment - 30%, and in the bus segment — 60%.
"The introduction of a shortened working week in these conditions allows the plant to save jobs, adapting the production program to the market situation, and organize an even workload of production facilities," the company explained and noted that they optimize costs, preserving all social benefits for employees in full.
From July 21 to August 3, employees of the Gorky Automobile Plant are on an annual planned fully paid corporate vacation.
Earlier, on July 22, AvtoVAZ announced that in early autumn the company would consider changing the schedule of its production sites from September 29 and switching to a four-day working week. The automaker also cited the high key rate and stricter regulatory requirements for car loan borrowers as the reasons for the difficult market situation.
