- Axios learned about Iran's condition for returning to negotiations with the United States
Iran is ready to return to negotiations with the United States on its nuclear program, but first it wants to be sure that no new American strikes will follow. This was announced on July 23 by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic Kazem Gharibabadi.
"Last month, American officials discussed the dates of future talks with Tehran, while coordinating military plans with Israel. Although Tehran knows that it needs to negotiate with the United States in order to achieve the lifting of sanctions and avoid new ones, we are bluntly saying that we do not trust the United States," the Axios portal quotes him as saying.
It is noted that distrust is one of the reasons why Iran is currently refusing to resume dialogue with the United States.
Earlier in the day, Tammy Bruce, the head of the US State Department's press service, announced Washington's readiness for direct talks with Iran. She noted that now Tehran can choose the path of "peace and prosperity" in the interests of the Iranian people.
Sky News Arabia TV channel reported on July 20 that Iran will hold talks on its nuclear program with the Eurotroika, which includes France, Great Britain and Germany, in Geneva on July 27.
