The court sentenced Haji Hajiyev, an auto blogger who hit people on the road, to three years in a penal colony. This was reported by a correspondent of Izvestia on July 22.
The punishment provides for the deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving for two and a half years. The blogger will also have to pay a fine of 200 thousand rubles. Hajiyev will remain under house arrest until the verdict comes into force.
"For all the five months in jail and four months while I was under house arrest, there was not a single day that I did not scold myself that I got behind the wheel that night and people got hurt because of it," Hajiyev said, delivering his last speech.
The blogger noted that this situation has become a serious lesson for him. Hajiyev promised that regardless of the punishment, he and his family will continue to support and help the victims.
The autoblogger was detained on November 26 last year on suspicion of committing an accident in Odintsovo, Moscow region. It was clarified that his car ran over pedestrians standing on the side of the road. As a result of the incident, two people were injured. At the same time, the Izvestia source noted that the detained blogger had turned himself in to law enforcement agencies.
A criminal case was also opened against the defendant under paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles") and Article 267.1 of the Criminal Code ("Actions threatening the safe operation of vehicles").
