Several hundred participants in an anti-government protest taking place in Bucharest, the Romanian capital, clashed with police, injuring at least four law enforcement officers. This was reported on July 20 by Radio Romania Actualitati (RRA) radio channel with reference to operational services.

It is specified that during the rally, supporters of former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu blocked traffic on Victory Square, where the government headquarters is located. The participants, whose number, according to preliminary data, is almost 300 people, express their disagreement with the results of the presidential elections in 2024.

"The demonstration <...> was marked by tension between protesters and law enforcement agencies throughout the day, as a result of which four gendarmes were injured," the article says.

It is noted that currently two truck drivers who blocked the highway with their vehicles, creating a 23 km long traffic jam, face imprisonment for a period of three months to two years.

The Captirile Pro TV channel reported on July 13 that the Romanian Court of Appeal had decided to dismiss Georgescu's "unfounded" complaint and extend his preventive measure in the form of judicial control. The ex-candidate criticized the decision, calling it "blatant political persecution," which, in his opinion, contradicts both the law and common sense.
