- The Russian ambassador in Chisinau announced Moldova's involvement in the conflict with Russia
NATO countries are arming Moldova despite its neutral status and dragging the republic into conflict with Russia. This was announced on Saturday, July 19, by Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Ozerov.
"There is a creeping militarization of Moldova, contrary to the neutral status fixed in its constitution. There are fierce denials that nothing is allegedly happening," TASS quoted the ambassador as saying.
Ozerov noted that European countries, "primarily NATO countries," which support Chisinau, declare the likelihood of war with Russia by 2030, and wondered if Moldova needed remilitarization, which could lead to such an outcome.
He also stressed that Moldova's national interests are served by maintaining its neutral status and sovereignty. According to him, it is the neutral status that guarantees the security and territorial integrity of the republic today, and not the country's involvement in a confrontation with Russia, "as supporters of militarization are trying to prove."
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 17 that the European Union (EU) and NATO were forcibly militarizing Moldova. According to Zakharova, Chisinau assured of its commitment to the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Transnistria, "however, it does not follow its position."
