The political scientist assessed Israel's ability for a full-scale war with Syria
There will not be a full-scale war between Israel and Syria, as both sides are not ready for it. This opinion was expressed by political scientist, Deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics of Moscow State University Vladimir Shapovalov on Friday, July 18.
"Of course, there will not be a full-scale war. Israel is not ready for it. We saw this very clearly at the time of the Iran-Israel conflict. Israel has withstood literally several days of confrontation. Moreover, the current Syrian government is not ready, since in fact Syria does not have sufficient resources to conduct a full—scale military campaign against Israel," the expert explained in an interview with aif.ru .
According to Shapovalov, Israel decided to bomb Damascus, as currently all the attention of the world community is focused on Ukraine.
Yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the ceasefire in southern Syria and the withdrawal of Syrian troops to Damascus were the result of Israeli military actions.
According to him, the ceasefire agreement announced by Syrian Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa was made possible not through negotiations, but "through force." Netanyahu stressed that Israel intends to continue to act if necessary. The Prime Minister stressed that the country will continue to protect its interests and the safety of the Druze population in Syria.
