The expert named seven rubber-killing mistakes for Russian drivers
The summer operating conditions of the machines, along with the hot weather, affect the condition of the tires. This was announced on July 18 by Nikolay Pogulyaev, head of the Fit Service car service.
So, if drivers do not monitor tire pressure with a pressure gauge, then if there is not enough tire pressure, they will be squeezed under the weight of the car. This leads to wear on their sides and shoulder areas of the tread, which impairs the handling of the car and increases fuel consumption. Over-inflated tires wear out the central part of the tread, which negatively affects traction.
The second mistake is the excessive load on the car, under such a load the tire overheats and deforms. All this not only shortens its service life, but also affects safety, as the risk of tire rupture increases at speed. Extreme driving also wears out the tires. Tricks such as maneuvers, emergency braking, and skidding at the start are dangerous in the heat, when the rubber is negatively affected by heated asphalt, the expert said.
The fourth mistake is incorrect tire storage conditions. They need a dry, dark place with average humidity and temperature values. If these conditions are not met, the rubber will fail faster and cannot provide proper grip. Neglect of balancing affects the wear of the tread. Areas appear on it that are more erased than others. The wrong angle of the wheels to the body can also lead to unilateral tire wear, explained Pogulyaev.
Another mistake, according to the expert, is the use of tires out of season. Winter tires are softer, and they are designed for low temperatures, so they "melt" on hot asphalt, and the car loses control. It is also important to use the tires correctly.
"It is necessary to take into account which roads the car will drive most often, and select tires that match the characteristics. That is, try to choose tires for specific operating conditions," Pogulyaev said in an interview with the Prime agency.
On July 15, Igor Morzharetto, partner of the Autostat analytical agency, auto expert, and Leonid Olshansky, lawyer, vice president of the Motorists of Russia movement, gave advice to Russians on safe driving in thunderstorms and rain. So, you should not try to storm a puddle, especially without knowing the depth, the engine may suffer from this. In case of adverse weather conditions, you should move slowly along the road, and also have a cable with you.
