- A resident of the liberated Kurakhovo told about life under the shelling of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
People in the city of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) had to sit in basements under shelling when the city was under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Tamara Konstantinovna, a local resident, told Izvestia about this on Thursday, July 17.
"The horror. We were sitting in the basement," she recalls.
According to Izvestia correspondent Evgeny Bykovsky, about a thousand people live in Kurakhovo. Bus service to Donetsk has resumed near the city, several grocery stores, a car stall and a clothing store are operating.
As the correspondent noted, Ukrainian militants used social and civilian facilities, including the Kurakhovskaya city hospital, as bases in the settlement.
"Right in the middle of the hospital, in one of the offices, there is an iron armored door with the inscription: "A place where weapons are stored," the correspondent added.
The Russian military completely liberated Kurakhovo on January 6. The Russian Defense Ministry noted at the time that the city had been transformed into a powerful fortified area with a well-developed network of firing positions and underground communications in 10 years. On March 13, Denis Pushilin, the head of the region, also pointed out a large number of residential buildings in Kurakhovo that are subject to restoration.
