The arrested mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for insulting the prosecutor. This was reported on July 16 by the Haberturk TV channel.
"The judicial Board <...> sentenced Imamoglu to 1 year and 8 months in prison for "publicly insulting an official in connection with the performance of his official duties" and "threats," the publication says.
Imamoglu's trial is being held in Istanbul's Silivri prison. It is noted that the mayor's defense will appeal.
On March 19, Turkish law enforcement authorities issued a warrant for Imamoglu's detention. An anti-corruption operation has been launched against the Istanbul administration.
