- The SVR pointed to NATO's efforts to prepare Moldova for a military conflict with the Russian Federation
NATO countries are turning Moldova into a new military battering ram for conflict with Russia. This was reported on July 14 in the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation.
"NATO members who bit their bit are strenuously turning the once peaceful agrarian republic into a military training ground. They are trying to make the Moldovan territory suitable for the rapid transfer of NATO troops to the Russian borders," the ministry said in a statement on its website.
The SVR stressed that railways and bridges in Moldova are being modernized to transport troops, as well as the capacity of airports to receive military transport and combat aircraft is being increased. Logistics hubs, large warehouses and sites for the concentration of military equipment are also being built.
It is noted that NATO countries are also forcing Chisinau to switch to Western concepts of warfare. For this purpose, military instructors from the Alliance countries operate in Moldova.
"However, the main blow in the event of a direct conflict between NATO and Russia, according to Brussels, will be borne by the Moldovans themselves. They are the ones who should become cannon fodder during the fighting with Russian troops," the SVR added.
The ministry stressed that the regime of President Maia Sandu is ready to do anything to preserve power, including the abolition of Moldova's neutral status provided for in the national constitution.
On May 20, former President of the Republic Igor Dodon told Izvestia that the conflict in Ukraine should be a lesson for Moldova and show the fallacy of Sandu's actions, which repeats Kiev's actions in opposing Russia. He stressed that Moldova needs to maintain friendly relations with the Russian Federation.
