The media cited the reason for Hegset's suspension of military aid to Ukraine
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth suspended sending U.S. military aid to Ukraine after receiving a note from his Deputy for political Affairs Elbridge Colby. This was reported on July 13 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
"Exactly Colby <... In early June, he wrote a memo to Hegset in which he reported how Ukraine's requests for American weapons supplies could further deplete the Pentagon's already few reserves," the publication says.
It is noted that Colby wanted to use the weapons saved as a result of the cancellation of supplies to counteract China.
On July 2, Hegseth announced that he had decided to suspend the supply of dozens of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, more than 100 Hellfire missiles, dozens of Stinger missiles, more than 250 GMLRS guided precision-guided missiles and other types of weapons to Ukraine.
On July 8, US President Donald Trump announced the transfer of some defensive weapons to Ukraine. He stressed that he had independently approved the supply of weapons to Kiev. On the same day, Axios reported that Trump promised Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to send 10 interceptor missiles for the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system (SAM).
