- Switzerland pointed to the suppression of the Ukrainian air defense by Russian kamikaze drones
Russia has achieved notable success in suppressing the Ukrainian air defense system through the use of drones, and Moscow's growing superiority. This was reported on July 11 by the Swiss newspaper Neue Zurcher Zeitung (NZZ).
According to the newspaper, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Ukraine to deter attacks by Russian drones upgraded using new technological solutions. The seriousness of the situation is evidenced by cases when the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reported unreliable or incomplete data on the results of repelling drone attacks.
"[Russian drones] are equipped with more powerful engines, improved navigation and less vulnerable antennas. In addition, Russians fly at high altitudes, sometimes more than 3 km, which makes them inaccessible to simple air defense systems," the publication says.
The Ukrainian military points out that Russia's new tactics have become the main threat — the simultaneous launch of hundreds of drones, which significantly reduces the effectiveness of the air defense system. According to their estimates, the proportion of drones that manage to overcome protection has increased from 8% to 14% over the year.
On June 29, the editorial board of Military Watch Magazine noted that the Russian Army's aviation is more modern and technologically advanced than the Ukrainian one, even taking into account the supply of Western equipment to Kiev. The authors of the material point to the obsolescence of the F-16 supplied to Ukraine, and therefore they do not pose a significant threat to the Russian Air Force.
