Denmark will allocate almost $8 million to strengthen the Moldovan army
Denmark and Moldova have signed a military cooperation agreement, under which Copenhagen will allocate 50 million crowns ($7.8 million) to Chisinau to strengthen the republic's Armed Forces. This was announced on July 11 by the press service of the Danish Ministry of Defense.
"Denmark and Moldova are starting cooperation in the field of defense to strengthen Moldova's military potential and enhance its defense capability. According to the agreement, the Ministry of Defense will invest 50 million crowns over four years to ensure the security of frontline Moldova," the publication on the ministry's website says.
Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, in turn, called the support of the republic both a clear support for its security and an important strengthening of Europe's external borders.
In addition, the Danish Defense Ministry stressed that Copenhagen fully supports Chisinau's aspirations to join the European Union (EU).
Earlier, on July 4, the Pobeda opposition bloc strongly protested against the holding of the Moldova-EU summit. The association called the holding of the summit in spite of the protest of the majority of citizens on the issue of the republic's accession to the European Union a direct disrespect for the will of the people.
