Romania has imposed an entry ban on Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban for reasons of national security. This was announced by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, July 9.

"For reasons related to national security considerations, Romania has ordered a ban on entry into the country for Ion Ceban and two other Moldovan citizens," the publication on the website says.

It clarifies that the decision is being monitored by the competent Romanian institutions "in accordance with the rules in force in this matter."

On June 11, the leader of the Party of Socialists and former Moldovan president Igor Dodon announced Romania's gross interference in Moldovan internal affairs. He noted that Romanian President Nicusor Dan openly expressed support for the ruling Action and Solidarity party and Moldovan President Maia Sandu in the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on September 28.
