French politician commented on the fires in Marseille
Currently, the fire in Marseille is not yet fully localized, but firefighters have managed to limit its spread. This was stated on July 9 by Jean Philippe Coutaro, deputy regional delegate of the French political party Reconquista, in an interview with Izvestia.
"The fire has already spread to 800 hectares, which is a truly huge area. But so far, fortunately, there are no human casualties, only property has been damaged," he said.
According to the politician, the scale of the fire is caused by prolonged heat, drought and strong winds. Currently, all roads in the city area have been closed for safety reasons.
A large-scale forest fire that reached Marseille was reported a day earlier. For security reasons, the local airport has temporarily suspended flights. In addition, the railway service was interrupted. It is noted that 720 firefighters and more than 220 units of other equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire.
