The share of cars older than 10 years in Russia has exceeded 70%
The share of passenger cars older than 10 years in the Russian fleet has reached 72%. Alexey Podshchekoldin, head of the Association of Russian Automobile Dealers (ROAD), told about this at a press conference in Moscow on July 8, the Izvestia correspondent reports.
At the current rate of new car sales, in five years, 80% of the fleet will be models older than 10 years, while half of the cars will be older than 20 years, predicts the head of the ROAD.
"In order for the fleet to stop actively aging, it is necessary that at least 3 million new cars are sold annually in the Russian Federation. This should be a goal at the state level. Otherwise, the fleet will continue to age before our eyes," said Podshchekoldin.
According to the association, the average age of a car in Russia is now 16.5 years old. The head of the ROAD indicated that the priority should be the assembly of passenger cars in the country, not the import.
Earlier that day, it was reported that there were practically no new hatchback models left on the Russian car market. Thus, in the first half of 2025, 66% fewer hatchbacks (11 thousand units) were registered than in January –June 2024. The market share of this segment has decreased to 2%.
