There are almost no hatchback cars left on the Russian market.
There are practically no new hatchback models left on the Russian car market. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on July 8.
Thus, in the first half of 2025, 66% fewer hatchbacks (11 thousand units) were registered than in January-June 2024. The market share of this segment has decreased to 2%. At the same time, the share of sedans is 17%, and crossovers — more than 67%.
"There are liftbacks and coupe-like crossovers, which are sometimes also referred to as hatchback body types. In the salons of official dealers, models of compact "classic" hatchbacks can be counted on the fingers of one hand," the analyst noted.
The expert cited the concentration of the Chinese car industry on crossovers, the presence of only two hatchback models in the Russian car industry, and the unprofitable import of inexpensive models into the country under the alternative import scheme as reasons for the reduction in the share of hatchbacks in the Russian market.
Lada Granta (almost 9 thousand units) became the leader in the hatchback segment in sales in January-June 2025 in the Russian Federation, followed by Solaris KRX (1866 units) and Ora 03 (284 units). For each of the other models in the top 10, sales did not exceed 40 units. These are Toyota Yaris, Mini Hatch, Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf, Honda Fit and two BYD models — Seagull and Dolphin.
The day before, it was reported that the 27th week in the Russian car market turned out to be a record sales volume in 2025. From June 30 to July 6, 28.8 thousand new passenger cars were sold.
