The White House announced Trump's plans to curb the influence of the BRICS
US President Donald Trump believes that the BRICS association seeks to undermine the interests of the United States. This was announced on Monday, July 7, by White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.
"Generally speaking, the president believes that BRICS wants to undermine the interests of the United States," Leavitt said at a briefing.
She also stressed that Trump was closely following the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro.
On July 6, Trump announced that he plans to impose additional duties of 10% on countries that support the BRICS policy. He added that there would be no exceptions to this rule.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the next day that cooperation within the BRICS had never been and would not be directed against third countries. According to him, the uniqueness of such an association as BRICS lies in the fact that it is an association of countries that share common approaches and a common worldview on how to cooperate based on their own interests.
