- The State Duma expressed doubts about the ability of Germany to meet Ukraine's requests for weapons
Germany probably will not be able to fully satisfy Ukraine's requests for weapons. Alexander Borodai, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, said this in an interview with Izvestia on July 7.
He noted that Ukraine has long been in the position of "constantly begging" for Western weapons, whose reserves are depleted.
"The chances that the Ukrainian demands or requests will be fully satisfied, I think, are very low, almost zero. But, of course, the Germans, who are trying their best to prolong the ongoing conflict, I think they will try to extract something from their reserves," Borodai said.
In addition, the deputy chairman of the State Duma committee added that the recovery of German industry after 3.5 years of hostilities would be slow.
"The Western economy, in particular the European economy, is forced to meet the increasing demands of Ukraine, which they have been sponsoring for a long time. This leads to the militarization of our own industry," the deputy stressed.
The Bild newspaper reported on July 6 that Ukraine is asking Germany for weapons worth several billion euros. The Ukrainian authorities have requested 1.5 thousand guided missiles for the Iris-T SLM medium-range system and 500 guided missiles for the Iris-T SLS short-range system, 200 thousand shells of 40 mm anti-aircraft ammunition to combat Russian drones.
