Lithuania has for the first time deprived a Russian citizen of a residence permit (residence permit) for his too frequent trips to Russia or Belarus. This was announced on July 3 on the website of the Department of Migration under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic.

In the spring of 2025, Lithuania introduced a law according to which citizens of Russia and Belarus who have a residence permit in the country are prohibited from visiting these countries without objective reasons.

"While clarifying the reasons for the trips of Russian citizens who often travel to Russia or Belarus, the first case was identified that does not fall under the exceptions, and a decision was made to revoke the temporary residence permit held by a Russian citizen in Lithuania," the statement said.

The ministry clarified that they will begin reviewing cases on the cancellation of residence permits in respect of about 30 more Russians who often travel to Russia and Belarus.

The adoption of the bill by the Lithuanian Seimas became known on April 17. In addition, Lithuanian deputies extended the issuance of Schengen visas and residence permits for citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus for a year.
