The chemist warned about the danger of shale of poor quality in the sun

Shales made of low-quality materials, such as cheap polyvinyl chloride (PVC), can lead to health problems, as some materials release dangerous compounds in the sun. Andrey Dorokhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry named after A. N. Reformatsky RTU MIREA, warned about this on Thursday, July 3.

"In hot weather, the risk of negative consequences from wearing low—quality shales increases many times, as high temperatures accelerate the processes of separating dangerous compounds from materials," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

He stressed that this is especially important for children, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases, according to the website. kp.ru .

Dorokhov clarified that shales with a high content of plasticizers, such as phthalates, are the most dangerous. When heated, for example, in the sun, they can migrate to the surface and penetrate through the skin. Phthalates have an endocrine-disrupting effect and can affect hormonal balance, the chemist warned.

He added that high-quality ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and polyurethane (PU), produced in compliance with technological standards and with appropriate certification, are considered safe materials.

Dorokhov does not buy slates with a strong chemical odor, as this may be a sign of the presence of volatile organic compounds.
