Around the council: students began to travel almost one and a half times more often

Russian students have begun to travel more — since the beginning of 2025, 57 thousand participants have registered in the Studtourism program, compared with 40 thousand a year earlier, the Ministry of Education and Science told Izvestia. Currently, within the framework of the project, it is possible to visit 117 cities of Russia, as well as China, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Armenia and Uzbekistan, while the cost of students staying at partner universities at the place of arrival will be 80-100 rubles per day. About how students travel and how much they are willing to pay for the trip is in the Izvestia article.
Where can students go under the Studentourism program
Since the beginning of 2025, 57 thousand students and young professionals have registered in the Studtourism program — about 15 thousand of them have already traveled, the Ministry of Education and Science told Izvestia. For comparison, 40 thousand people used the program last year.
The program is open all year round, which allows you to organize trips not only in the summer season, but also in winter. University students, young professionals, employees and scientists aged 18 to 35 can use it. Young people pay for the trip themselves, but the cost of housing during the trip is partially borne by partner universities: accommodation in dormitories is paid at a discounted price - 80-100 rubles per night. In addition, universities where program participants study can compensate students for travel expenses. In addition, the host universities provide an opportunity to attend educational, scientific and cultural events for free.
"In 2025, in addition to an increase in the number of trips within the framework of the main program format, an increase in the number of trips is expected due to the development of special projects — for example, a series of blog tours to Russian cities and foreign countries has already been launched," the ministry said.
In general, this year students can travel to China, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Armenia and Uzbekistan as part of the project. Currently, 256 universities from 117 cities of 85 regions of Russia are participating in the project.
"The number of partner universities is constantly growing — over the past month, Kherson State Pedagogical University, the National Research University of the Moscow Institute of Economics and Kuzbass State Agrarian University named after V.N. Poletskov have joined the program," the Ministry of Education and Science said.
Among the program's partners are the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after the first President of the Russian Federation B.N. Yeltsin, the Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University, the Belarusian-Russian University, Sharof Rashidov Samarkand State University and the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after H. Abovyan.
Traveling as a volunteer
Youth tourism is also being developed by Rosmolodezh's "More than a Journey" program, which operates within the framework of the national project "Youth and Children," Olesya Teterina, Director General of ANO More than a Journey, told Izvestia.
— Over 275,000 people have already discovered the country in a new way during trips from the program to the regions, including schoolchildren and students, young professionals and families with children. Each trip includes three components: tourist, educational and useful," she said. — The participants of the program apply the acquired knowledge already on the trip, making their own contribution to the life of the visited territory. For example, they join environmental campaigns to clean up natural areas, help restore architectural sites, and offer ideas for promoting local brands.
More than 1.1 thousand participants of the "More than a Journey" program took part in trips to BAM, where they completed internships at the facilities of the Eastern Railway Landfill and participated in the construction of the second branch of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, Olesya Teterina said. And 1 million people have become participants in tourist gatherings, the same number is expected for 2025.
Young people are now trying to get to know the country on their own, and not from books, textbooks or through TV screens, Mikhail Kiselyov, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy, told Izvestia.
"The fact that young people are actively traveling around Russia causes joy, pride and respect," he said. There are really a lot of programs being created now, they give students the opportunity to plunge not only into the beautiful landscapes, but also to see what future career opportunities they have in a particular region. When student teams travel to the facilities, they have the opportunity to visit different cities, from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok, and build a nuclear power plant abroad.
How much are students willing to spend on the trip
Izvestia talked with the students and found out where they want to go this summer and how much they are willing to spend on the trip. Popular Russian destinations include St. Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, Kamchatka, Murmansk and the North Caucasus. There are also those who wish to travel to Belarus, China and Kyrgyzstan.
"We need to take advantage of such opportunities, develop ourselves, and at the same time promote science in different parts of our homeland," says Daria, a fourth—year student at Moscow State University. — Such programs are a great chance to communicate with wonderful smart people from all over the country and beyond, and create new unique projects with them. Of course, do not forget about excursions — this is an integral part of traveling. I really like it when local guides open their eyes to the city in a completely different way, with a completely fresh look at the world.
Maria, a student at the Higher School of Economics, noted that Studentourism and other similar programs are popular among students because they allow them to spend time inexpensively and interestingly, as well as to get acquainted with a new culture and new people.
— This summer I plan to go to Gelendzhik, Grozny and Karelia. During the school year, I was on sightseeing tours, forums and thematic trips in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Tver and Kolomna," she shared. — Active tourism, cultural excursions and educational programs, ecological and ethnic tourism are more interesting.
Student Daria, according to her, is ready to spend up to 50-70 thousand rubles on a week-long trip. MSLU graduate student Pavel plans to allocate 20-40 thousand rubles for the trip. And Maria is ready to pay 10-30 thousand rubles for the trip, depending on the format of the trip.
