Armenia has announced its intention to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This was reported on July 3 in the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

"Sharing the fundamental principles of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, namely territorial integrity, non—use of force and inviolability of borders, the Republic of Armenia has expressed its desire to become a member of the SCO," the ministry said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

In July last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin named the security of the SCO member states as one of the SCO's priorities. According to the Russian leader, the approved program of cooperation in the field of combating separatism and extremism in the SCO space will also contribute to this task.
