The doctor warned about the dangers of chronic sleep deprivation

Chronic lack of sleep leads to exhaustion of the body and disruption of its protective functions. Irina Volgina, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, told Izvestia about the serious consequences of lack of sleep for human health on July 3.
"One sleepless night can mobilize the body, but systematic sleep disorders force all resources to be directed to recovery, rather than to combat new threats," explains Volgina.
The doctor notes that chronic lack of sleep weakens the immune response not only to infections, but also to oncological processes and autoimmune disorders.
The specialist is particularly concerned about the effect of lack of sleep on brain function. She explained that it takes 21 days for the brain to fully recover after one sleepless night. With constant sleep disorders, this recovery does not occur at all. This can lead to the development of neurological and mental disorders, from irritability and headaches to hallucinations and psychosis.
Volgina draws attention to the social consequences of lack of sleep. A person with chronic sleep disorders loses the ability to concentrate, adequately perform professional duties, and becomes inattentive to speech addressed to him.
"It is dangerous for such a person to get behind the wheel or perform work that requires increased responsibility," the doctor emphasizes.
The specialist recommends that you strictly observe sleep hygiene, do not neglect the opportunity to get enough sleep and seek timely medical help for any sleep disorders. Proper rest is not a luxury, but a necessary condition for maintaining health and working capacity, summarizes Volgina.
On June 20, Lydia Antonovich, a practicing psychologist, said that the cause of panic attacks may be chronic lack of sleep, which increases anxiety. In addition, they can occur due to stress or a genetic predisposition.
