Australia to purchase $2.21 billion worth of US medium-range missiles

The Australian authorities intend to purchase modern medium-range guided missiles from the United States in the amount of up to 3.4 billion Australian dollars (about $ 2.12 billion) as part of a program to strengthen air defense and strike power. This was announced on July 3 on the website of the Australian Ministry of Defense.
It is specified that it is planned to purchase AIM-120D-3 air-to-air missiles, which are designed for use on F/A‑18F Super Hornet, EA‑18G Growler and F‑35A Lightning II fighters, as well as AIM‑120C‑8 missiles. These projectiles are launched from the NASAMS ground-based complexes, which are to enter service with the Australian army. The purchase will be carried out as part of the US Foreign sales program.
"These additional missiles will help ensure the Australian army's ability to protect Australians from aerial threats," said Australian Defense Industry Minister Pat Conroy.
The British government announced on June 24 that the United Kingdom plans to purchase 12 new F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons from the United States. The acquired equipment will be used as part of the NATO mission to create dual-use aircraft and strengthen the alliance's military deterrence capabilities.
