Lithuania to build four camps for volunteer forces by 2027

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense intends to build four new company camps for the Volunteer National Defense Forces (NDVF) in Vilnius, Ukmerga, Pasvalis and Kelma. This was reported on the agency's website on July 2.
The first stage of construction is scheduled to be completed in early 2027. The complexes will include headquarters, barracks, administrative and storage facilities, locker rooms, sports and leisure areas, parking lots and workplaces.
In addition, a shooting range, a sanitary building, a garage and equipment storage areas will be built in Vilnius. The preliminary cost of construction in the capital is about 3.6 million euros, and it is planned to announce a tender for these works in the third quarter of 2025. Projects for Ukmerge, Pasvalis and Kelme will be prepared by mid-2026.
"The Volunteer National Defense Forces are an integral part of Lithuania's defense system, so volunteers should be provided with modern, service—appropriate conditions," said Oriyana Mashale, Vice Minister of National Defense for Infrastructure.
It is specified that after the completion of the first stage, the Ministry of Defense plans to develop a network of such facilities in at least ten other regions of the country to increase defense potential.
The Diena portal reported on May 25 that the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense plans to increase the number of shooting ranges and shooting ranges to prepare the population for "civil resistance." According to Defense Minister Deauville Shakalene, the authorities plan to launch relevant pilot projects in municipalities. The politician added that shooting skills can be useful not only to those who "plan to participate in armed resistance if necessary," but also are a way to "have a good time."
