An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 was recorded in the south of the Kuril Islands. This was announced on July 2 by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

According to him, the tremors occurred at 22:20 UTC (1:20 Moscow time). The epicenter was located 133 km northeast of the city of Kurilsk (Iturup Island), which is home to at least 1.6 thousand people. The seismic event was located at a depth of 120 km.

No information about casualties or damage has been provided, and no tsunami threat has been announced.

On May 30, an earthquake with a magnitude of up to 3 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean in the Kuril and South Kuril regions in four settlements: the villages of Krabozavodsky, Malokurilsky, Gorny and the urban-type settlement of Yuzhno-Kurilsk.
