The UN welcomed the telephone conversation between Putin and Macron

The United Nations (UN) welcomes the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and French Leader Emmanuel Macron. This was announced on July 1 by the representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric.
"I haven't seen the outcome of the talks, but obviously we welcome any dialogue between the two countries, especially at the highest level," he told TASS.
The conversation between Putin and Macron took place earlier in the day. During the dialogue, the heads of state discussed in detail the situation in the Middle East in the context of the escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel, as well as the situation in Ukraine.
According to Putin, possible agreements on the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict should be comprehensive and long-term in nature, provide for the elimination of the root causes of the crisis and rely on new territorial realities.
On June 25, Macron said that it was time for the European Union (EU) countries to think about the conditions for dialogue with Russia. According to him, the EU needs to start a dialogue with Moscow on arms limitation and return to the "path of restoring trust." The last time Putin and Macron spoke on the phone was in September 2022.
