The detention of Russian journalists in Baku is an "emotional reaction." This was announced on July 1 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"We believe that this extreme emotional reaction will be replaced by direct communication, during which all the questions raised will be answered," he said.

Peskov also noted that Moscow is attentive to information related to this incident. According to him, Russia hopes that it will be able to reach an agreement with Azerbaijan on the release of media representatives in the near future.

Such actions contradict generally accepted norms and rules, Peskov added. Such measures also run counter to the "spirit and nature of Russian-Azerbaijani relations."

Earlier, on June 30, it was reported that Azerbaijani police conducted an operation at the office of the Sputnik Azerbaijan news agency. As Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT TV channel, noted, the staff did not get in touch.
