The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation called the indexation of electricity tariffs a natural process.

The indexation of electricity tariffs in Russia is a natural and economically justified process, since increasing the reliability and modernization of the electric grid complex requires constant financing. This was announced on July 1 by the Russian Ministry of Energy.

Starting from July 1, 2025, the planned indexation of electricity tariffs for the population is carried out in the Russian Federation — 12.6%.

The ministry noted that the final price of electric energy directly depends on the functioning of the electric grid complex. The Ministry of Energy stressed that the wear and aging of network equipment leads to significant losses of electricity during transmission, as a result of which this affects the tariff.

"Modernization and increasing the reliability of the electric grid complex require finding sources of financing, including through a gradual increase in tariffs, which is a natural and economically sound process," the publication says.
