US President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum according to which the United States will tighten its policy towards Cuba. This was reported on the White House website on June 30.

"Today, President Donald Trump signed the Presidential Memorandum on National Security (NSPM), aimed at tightening the United States policy towards Cuba. <...> NSPM ends economic practices that disproportionately benefit the Cuban government, military, intelligence or security services at the expense of the Cuban people," the document says.

It clarifies that the memorandum confirms the ban on tourism from the United States to Cuba, provides for support for the Cuban economic embargo and opposes measures to lift it at the United Nations (UN) and other international forums. The document also prescribes a review of human rights violations in Cuba, including illegal detentions and inhuman treatment.

On May 13, the US State Department announced the introduction of a ban on the export of defense products to Cuba, citing insufficient cooperation in the fight against terrorism. It was noted that in May 2024, Cuba was excluded from the list of countries "not fully cooperating" with Washington on counterterrorism issues. However, a year later, she was given this status again.
