The weather forecaster denied rumors about the abnormal cyclone "Cornelius" in Moscow

Cyclone Cornelius poses no threat and is no different from similar whirlwinds, of which there were several in June. Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, told Izvestia about this on June 30.

"This is definitely fake, and you don't have to fall for it. A cyclone is like a cyclone. We've already had several such cyclones, so it's nothing special," Pozdnyakova said.

She stressed that only tropical cyclones are named according to a special approved list, while the current atmospheric vortex does not belong to this category.

It is expected that it will take place in other regions of Central Russia.

The forecaster noted that the only feature of the cyclone was the record low atmospheric pressure in Moscow, recorded on the current date in the entire history of observations. However, today the vortex has already begun to fill up, and its influence on the weather is gradually weakening.

"Everyone assumed that it would be deep, powerful, bring heavy precipitation, thunderstorms and winds up to 20 m/s, but none of this happened. This is an ordinary cyclone, not a tropical vortex," the expert explained.

According to the expert's forecasts, windy weather with occasional rains, but without dangerous meteorological phenomena, will continue in the capital region in the coming days. The cyclone's center is already shifting to the east, and its impact on the Moscow region will decrease.

Pozdnyakova urged not to panic and not to trust unprofessional forecasts.

"There is no need to create fear with this cyclone. Do not succumb to the provocations of foreign weather services and various bloggers — these are far from experts," the forecaster said.

Earlier, on June 30, Pozdnyakova told Izvestia what weather awaits Muscovites this week. According to her, starting from July 1, the cyclone will gradually begin to fill up and shift to the east, which will lead to some improvement in weather conditions.
