Moscow was frozen by the onslaught of the North Atlantic cyclone Cornelius. Cold, heavy rains and wind — you can't even say that July is about to arrive. Now Muscovites who were expecting heat and sun will have to wait for the arrival of real summer weather, and people with chronic diseases and weather dependence will have to stock up on medications to stabilize blood pressure. Details can be found in the Izvestia article.

Nature has bad weather

The weather forecasts for the coming days are not encouraging. From Monday to Wednesday, Muscovites are expected to rain from morning to evening, and the temperature will range from 13 to 18 degrees Celsius with a decrease in the evening. The North Atlantic cyclone will take a break from the sun on Thursday — despite the clouds, it will be warm. However, before the weather gets better over the weekend, Cornelius will show itself with rain on Friday and 14 degrees closer to night.

In the morning, at nine o'clock Moscow time, the barometers at VDNH dropped to 728.5 mmHg, which is only 0.1 higher than the daily record of that day. Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center, told about this in his Telegram channel. And by 10 a.m., the barometers at the city's base weather station showed 728.3 mmHg, which, as the expert explained, was already 0.1 mmHg lower than the previous record set on that day 45 years ago.

The record decrease in atmospheric pressure was triggered by the same cyclone Cornelius, and in the coming hours the jump may either repeat or upgrade to a new maximum. According to Leus, the barometer readings are falling, and the exact figures will be known at the end of the day.

His name is Cornelius

The North Atlantic cyclone with a noble name came to Russia from Europe, where it managed to flood the cities with heavy rains. The name "Cornelius" was given by German meteorologists to the vortex that formed in the northwest.

According to weather forecasters, the Cornelius is moving in a southeasterly direction and covers up to 1,000 kilometers per day. Before reaching Moscow, the cyclone visited St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region: the air temperature dropped to 14-15 °C, the southwest rose, with a transition to the northwest, the wind gusted to 12-17 m/s, and atmospheric pressure dropped to the limits, significantly below normal, amounting to about 743 mm rt. art.

Forecasters are unanimous in their opinion: "Cornelius" will come to other regions of Russia, although its trajectory is not yet possible to predict. It is expected that it will affect the Central and Volga Federal Districts, as well as the Urals and Siberia.

It will be summer, but not immediately

Moscow has already had to endure a cold June. The weather was almost the same in the Russian capital in 1962, but July turned out to be hot, and no one remembered the rains that came in early summer. However, it's not worth waiting for the scorching sun in the coming week.

Temperatures will rise only next week due to variable clouds, as soon as the rains subside. So, the preliminary forecast for next Monday is 21 degrees Celsius and sunshine, despite partly cloudy skies.

In anticipation of the long—awaited summer weather, Muscovites are advised to stock up not only with umbrellas and raincoats, but also to take care of their health if there is a weather dependence - for example, drink sweet tea or coffee to increase blood pressure, avoid heavy physical exertion, and also do not forget to rest. Forecasters expect that atmospheric pressure will return to normal only by the beginning of the weekend.
