The head of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to transfer the criminal case against the members of the criminal group in Yekaterinburg to the central office. This was announced on June 30 by the official representative of the department Svetlana Petrenko.
"In order to conduct the most complete, comprehensive and objective investigation, the head of the department, Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, instructed to transfer the criminal case to the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation," the Investigative Committee's Telegram channel says.
As part of the criminal investigation, six Russian citizens were detained as suspects. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for Safarov Mazahir Mohbaly oglu, Safarov Akif Mohbaly oglu and Safarov Ayaz Mohbaly oglu, while the court extended the detention period for Ganjiev Ahliman Satdar oglu, Lalaev Shahin Mammadali oglu and Safarov Bakir Mehdi oglu.
"Interrogations of suspects, confessions and on-site verification of testimony with the participation of one of them allowed the investigation to conclude that the detainees were involved in the crimes committed and that there were signs of a criminal group in their actions. Also, during the investigation, the involvement of the defendants in the commission of other serious and especially serious crimes is being checked," the representative of the Investigative Committee summarizes.
On June 28, the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that the activities of an ethnic criminal group, whose members are suspected of a number of murders and attempted murders in recent years, had been suppressed in the Sverdlovsk region. According to the investigation, people from Azerbaijan are involved in the crimes in Yekaterinburg committed in 2001, 2010 and 2011. Several suspects confessed.
Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan called for an investigation into the actions of Russian law enforcement officers.
At the same time, Pyotr Volokov, Charge d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in the country, who was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, explained the situation and assured that it was under the control of law enforcement agencies.
