The German politician called for the creation of a European nuclear arsenal

On June 28, Jens Spahn, a leading politician of Germany's ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, called on Europe to become an independent nuclear power.
"We should be talking about German or European involvement in the nuclear arsenal of France and Great Britain. It will cost a lot of money. But anyone who wants protection must finance it," said Span in an interview with Welt.
According to him, the countries should hold a debate on an independent European nuclear defense, but "only under the leadership of Germany."
On June 25, following the results of the alliance's summit, NATO countries pledged to allocate 5% of their GDP to defense by 2035. According to the declaration, the alliance members are going to allocate funds to finance basic defense needs, as well as to achieve NATO's potential targets.
