In the Irkutsk region, a man was convicted of corruption in excess of 2 million rubles.

In the city of Bratsk, Irkutsk region, a former employee of the registration and examination department (REO) of the traffic police was convicted of 55 episodes of accepting bribes in excess of 2 million rubles as part of an organized group. This was announced on June 27 by the regional prosecutor's office in its Telegram channel.

"In 2019-2022, the defendant acted according to his assigned role as part of an organized group of 10 people. <...> Accomplices illegally received money from citizens for illegally organizing the successful passing of qualifying exams for obtaining driver's licenses," the report said.

According to the investigation, the defendant, holding the position of a senior inspector, facilitated the illegal passing of theoretical and practical exams for obtaining the right to drive a motor vehicle.

A criminal case was opened on this fact under paragraph "a" of Part 5 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Receiving a bribe committed by an organized group").

The court sentenced the perpetrator to 5.5 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony, with a fine of 1 million rubles, with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for three years, as well as the special rank of "police captain."

Earlier, on June 26, Yulia Logvinenko, the head of the Kolpino district administration, and Dmitry Kohno, the head of the Kolpino local administration, were detained on suspicion of corruption in St. Petersburg. An investigation is currently underway to identify other episodes of criminal activity.
