Slovakia vetoed the 18th package of EU anti-Russian sanctions

Slovakia will not support the 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions at the European Union (EU) summit in Brussels. This was announced by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Thursday, June 26.
"Slovakia will not support the new package of European Union sanctions against Russia and will seek to postpone the vote until Slovakia's problems with gas supplies after 2027 are resolved," the Index portal quotes him as saying.
It is clarified that Slovakia and Hungary opposed the imposition of sanctions.
Later, the head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, said that the EU summit had failed to approve a new package of sanctions, but its development would continue.
"We have already adopted 17 packages of sanctions, and work on a powerful new package is in full swing," Costa said.
On the same day, Fico said that sanctions against a country like Russia were not working. He noted that the sanctions packages have no effect on the Russian Federation.
