The Summit of the European Union (EU) countries did not decide on the imposition of sanctions against Israel, but the participants called for an urgent truce in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on June 26 in the final statement of the summit event.

The EU representatives also stressed that the full release of all hostages should begin without preconditions, which would serve as an impetus for a complete cessation of violence.

"The European Council expressed regret over the unacceptable humanitarian situation in Gaza and the unacceptable number of civilian casualties and the level of hunger of the population," the document says.

The summit also instructed EU foreign ministers to continue to "study Israel's compliance with the Association Agreement with the European Union," paying particular attention to the second article on the protection of human rights.

The participants of the meeting did not make any assessments of the Israeli military campaign against Iran, as well as the US strikes. At the same time, the summit participants confirmed their position on the unacceptability of Iran's nuclear program development.

Before the start of the summit, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that there are double standards in European politics, which can be seen from the example of the current situation in Israel, as well as decisions on sanctions against Russia. The politician noted that after what the authorities of the Jewish state have done regarding human rights, the EU should immediately suspend the agreement with Jerusalem.
